What Sets Our Treatment Programs Apart:
The Ascend ABA Difference

The Ascend ABA difference is experienced in every aspect of the services and programs we offer. We are able to help individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and other related diagnoses through ongoing, collaborative care. We understand that that there are individuals who cannot access needed ABA services because they are a certain age or have complex support needs. We understand that challenging behaviors and complex needs don’t arbitrarily end in childhood—that’s why our services are offered to individuals of all ages and levels of need.

Our experienced team is our greatest asset. Led by a BCBA-D with specialized expertise in the assessment and treatment of the most severe forms of challenging behavior displayed by children, adolescents, and adults, as well as managing complex clinical presentations and comorbid diagnoses. Our team is able to provide services in a variety of formats:

  • In-home services
  • Telehealth services
  • Hybrid services (combination of in-home and telehealth)

Finally, a high level of support for families and caregivers is an essential part of enrolling in a program at Ascend ABA. Parents and siblings of children with ASD and related diagnoses often experience increased stress. Not only do we want to provide therapy to our clients, but we want to ensure we are providing services and support to their family members as well. This might includes offering parent and sibling support groups, webinars, or other trainings as well as Parent’s Night Out events and other social activities that the whole family can take advantage of. Our clients aren’t the only ones who need our support—their families need support too.

Ascend ABA Therapy Programs

Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention (EIBI)
Early intervention is key in helping young children with ASD reach their goals and develop essential skills. We set individualized goals focused on building communication skills and use a combination of play-based and structured activities to reinforce prosocial behaviors in our youngest learners.

Functional Assessment Services
Functional behavioral assessments (FBA) help us identify the root causes of challenging, interfering behaviors and help our therapists find ways to change them. Although each of our clients receive a comprehensive FBA at the start of services, some of our clients need a more extensive assessment to determine why interfering behaviors are occurring. Other clients may engage in the most severe forms of problematic behavior that require multiple team members to manage safely.

At Ascend ABA, we have extensive experience in different assessment techniques including descriptive and functional analysis. Additionally, we have experience in assessing more severe forms of problematic behavior, or complex behavioral presentations.

Communication Skills Programs
Our team is experienced at helping our clients learn the most effective means of communicating their wants and needs. For example, functional communication training, or FCT, involves replacing challenging behaviors with a more appropriate communication response. For example, clients might learn to ask for a break or help with a task instead of engaging in aggressive or disruptive behavior during work periods.

Social Skills Programs
Social skills training can help individuals with ASD build friendships and communicate more effectively with peers.

Adult Services
Our services don’t end when our clients reach adulthood. Instead, we partner with families to offer ongoing support to help our older learners develop skills that will help them find employment, develop independent living skills, and navigate relationships.

What to Expect in ABA Therapy Sessions

During ABA therapy sessions, your loved one will participate in a variety of activities to help them learn essential life skills and reduce challenging behaviours. We make having fun a priority, too—we’re committed to making every client’s experience a positive one. Whether you’re participating in in-home, telehealth, or centre-based ABA therapy, you can expect the following:

Early Intervention

Early intervention is key in helping children with ASD reach their goals and develop essential skills. Ideally, early intervention services are accessed soon after diagnosis. We set individualized goals for each client and use both play-based and structure activities to help our youngest learners develop critical communication, social, and play skills.

Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA)

Functional behavioral assessments help us identify the root causes of challenging behaviors and help our therapists find ways to change them. FBAs generally consist of a combination of structured surveys and interviews, direct observations, and more direct assessment procedures.

Functional Communication (FCT)

FCT involves replacing challenging behaviors with more appropriate behaviors. The goal of FCT is to teach clients a safer, more effective way to communicate their needs instead of resorting to harmful behavior such as aggression, disruption, or other forms of maladaptive behavior.

Social Skills Programs for Children

Social skills training can help children and adolescents build friendships and communicate more effectively with peers.

Treatment Programs for Adults

Our services don’t end when our clients reach adulthood. Instead, we partner with families to offer ongoing support for our adolescent and adult learners.

Social Skills Programs for Adults

Adults with autism can benefit from activities like role-playing and supported social skills groups designed to help them develop both verbal and nonverbal communication skills with peers.
